This PT 15 jeweled bug was obtained by the Scourge of San Juan (aka, Emory Russell) who wears it at every opportunity to display his fabulous collection of Cootie paraphernalia and just irritate the shit out of PT 15.
During recent archaeological diggings in Metropolitan Balibago, a jeweled bug was uncovered by a noted naturalist, bon vivant and used tire salesman, Claude Balls.  The world’s leading expert on jeweled bugs and moped carburetor repair, Thurlow T. Fuzznutts, has declared this recently discovered find to be the mate to the famous PT 15 jeweled bug (now know as the Russell Jeweled Bug).
Alas, this otherwise happy episode has an unhappy ending.  Once again, gloom and despair, not to mention dire financial straits have descended upon PT 15.  The Pup Tent has decided to part with their recently discovered jewel.
The PT15 Jeweled Bug II will be auctioned off at the Philippine Swarming on 10 November.
In order to let all Cootiedom have a chance at this fabulous prize, the Pup Tent has engaged the services of that renown accounting firm of Dowee, Cheatum and Howe to handle bids by E- Mail.
Bids, to be held in the strictest confidence, will be collected by the firms representative in Angeles City, he can reached at <bkhub@datelnet.net>.

However, the Annual Cooties from Taiwan and one in the U.S. remained on the pup tent our rolls. Through- out the year two renewed their PT 15 dues and the rest were transferred also to PT 7 and 11. This was a major blow to the Pup Tent as it was impossible to obtain 100% in membership.
-  KCR B. K. resigned, therefore the history was not updated for quite awhile.
-  The first scratch was in July with major discussion on membership for the ensuing year.
-  PT 15 Cooties attended the July Swarming, hosted by PT 11 in Subic.

-  The Pup Tent hosted a chili team led by the son and daughter (John Jr. and Diane), from Sacramento, of Hide Gimlet John Welsh at the November Annual Chili Cook Off up in La Union. VVA Chapter 887 co- hosted with the Pup Tent for the Miss Chili Pepper contestant. Unfortunately, neither the chili nor the pepper won.
-  A small contingent attended the Grand Scratch in Pattaya in December.
-  The Pup Tent hosted another Swim Party for the Street Kids on 23 January.

-  Another Street Kids Swim Party was held on 7 May , this time on Clark Base at the officer Club. There were 28 kids and 5 Cooties in attendance.
-  There was not a scratch in June due to the DPA Convention and Grand Scratch in Angeles City (Oasis Hotel) . Pup Tent 15 Cooties attended the Grand Scratch and Installation Banquet. Since the Pup Tent did not obtain 100% in membership, it was not permitted to submit any of it’s Cooties for awards or be eligible for the LM drawing. The only award presented to the Pup Tent was to Mr. Brian Usher, Outstanding Outside Supporter of the Year.
-  At the Grand Scratch, Jerry “Sea Dog” Prinz was elected Grand Commander and E. Ralph Milward as Grand Chaplain.

2007-2008

Seam Squirrel:  Mervin Dick Jones
Blanket Bum:     Joe Carsley
Hide Gimlet:      John Welsh
C.C.D.B.:           Lafayette Donaldson
Hungry Cootie:  Larry Jackson

Seam Squirrel Jones started his cootie year with the opening of a Scratch on 10 July, with 11 Cooties in attendance.  B. B. Joe Carsley briefed on the 2007-2008 Grand Booster Program and informed all he will send out a user-friendly work sheet to record activities to report back to him.  The Hospital Visit program was emphasized and all Cooties were asked to support this program by reporting veterans visited in the hospital or at home.
Seadog seconded a motion to which a motion was made for our Pup Tent name be changed to  “Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15”. A letter must be prepared to go through the Grand to Supreme, for approval.  When approved, Supreme will bill us $25 for the name change.  The second and motion passed.  There was a Street Kid’s Swim Party on 28 July at the Clark Base Officer Club pool area with 8 Cooties and 30 kids in attendance.  7 Cooties attended the July District 7 Meeting down in Subic  and 6 Cooties attended the M. O. C. Philippine Swarming hosted by PT 11.

The August 2007 Scratch had 12 Cooties in attendance.  Membership Chairman Ski-1 reported our membership at only 72%.  The consensus of the Cooties present was for the Pup Tent not to pay for all the annual Cooties as we have in the past.  The A. H. C. reported he would get with the proper Cooties reference the Pup Tent 15 official name change.  New Business  the Pup Tent decided not participate in the annual Chili Cook Off in La Union in November, all Cooties agreed.    Plans were made for a Cootie Social on 10 November after the M. O. C. Philippine Swarming.  C. C. D. B. L. Don was appointed as action on this.

The September Scratch was conducted in good form with proper recognition to those who gave their lives on 9/11.  There were only 8 Cooties in attendance.   B. B. Joe recommended that the Pup Tent have a Cootie Auction (pins, belt buckles, etc) at the November 10 Swarming, rather than at the social, all agreed.  15 Cooties attended  the 9/11 Prayer Breakfast.

In October we had 13 Cooties in attendance at the Scratch, which was an improvement over September.   Cootie L. Don reported the Cootie Social on 10 November will be at the Brass Knob Bar @ 2 PM, and The SPO announced there will be a Street Kid’s Swim Party on Clark Base Officer Club Pool on 27 October @ 1230 hours.

The 10 November Swarming hosted by Pup Tent 15 kicked off at Noon with a total of 24 Cooties in attendance.  Most of the regular order of business was omitted due to the visiting Cooties.   Membership Chairman Ski-1 report as of the Swarming, our PT 15 now has 34 LM for a total of 41 Cooties and we were @ 87%.   Cootie E. Ralph reported due to problems he encountered while hospitalized, he will take on a blood donor project and report on all the facts hopefully after first of the year.    At the swarming an auction was conducted by B. B. Joe with P5100 collected and P2820 in fines, not to shabby.  We had well over 35 in attendance at our Cootie Social following the swarming.  Veterans Day Observance saw that there were 16 Cooties in attendance at the cemetery ceremonies and about the same at the VFW 2485 picnic afterwards.

December started off with at least 8 of our Cooties going to Subic for the VFW DPA Mid Term Convention and Grand Scratch.  There were only 5 who attended the Grand Scratch, but a few more attended the Cootie Social.  Our Seam Squirrel hand carried  transmittals making our Pup Tent 100% by the Grand Scratch.  Therefore the membership status as of the Grand Scratch was 35 Annual and 12 Annual for 47 @ 100%.   The S. S. also hand carried to the Grand Asst. Adjutant Johnson and Grand Commander Keeley a request to change our Pup Tent name to: “Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15”.   The S. S. was informed the request would be signed by the Grand Commander and forwarded to Supreme for action.  The S. S. also gave the Grand Asst. Adjutant copies of our General Order #2 making E. Ralph Milward the Hungry Cootie again and our Blanket Bum the added duties as Hospital Chairman. The Pup Tent had its monthly scratch on 11 December with 12 Cooties in attendance.  December also found 2 of our Cooties working with “AWAMS” (Americans with a Mission{for kids}) playing Santa Clause and giving out food packages to indigents.  When the Seam Squirrel closed the scratch he wished everyone a very Happy Holiday Season.

On 8 January the Scratch for the new calendar year 2008 was opened by Seam Squirrel Jones with 13 Cooties in attendance.  We were honored to have back one of our long lost Cooties Paul Morgenthal.  There was a motion and second to establish a banking account at the China Bank within the SM Mall.  Over the years since the Pup Tent has had the USAFEDCU as its banking facility, there has been problems in communication with the bank and the bank not posting  current signatories.  The motion passed and the S. S. said he would take the action to set up the new account.  Membership remained the same as last month with 47 Cooties @ 100%. Cootie E. Ralph Milward reported with the assistance of Jim Lary and Steve Massie, they were able to find out which hospitals in the Angeles City area have Blood Banks and what their requirements were.  There are only two Blood Banks who work with the San Fernando Red Cross.  They are Angeles University Foundation (AUF) and Garcia hospitals.   The S. S. appointed E. Ralph Milward to Chair the Ad Hoc Committee with members Werner (Ski-1) Koslovski, Joe Carsley and Lafayette Donaldson.  Under New Business the S. S. opened the floor for first nomination for Pup Tent 15 Shavetails for 2008-2009.  The Cooties nominated were Seam Squirrel – Joe Carsley; blanket Bum – Open; Hide Gimlet – John Welsh; C. C. D. B. –  Werner Slovkoski (Ski-1), Sky Pilot Thaddeus. (Ski2) Stryminski; Pill Pusher – Cecil Johnson; Shyster – Open; KCR – Jerry Prinz; Tightwad 3 Year – Paul Morgenthal.  The Cooties in attendance were informed nominations would remain open until the final nominations and elections at the February Scratch.

There were 11 Cooties in attendance at the February Scratch  The regular order of business was followed.  The S. S. briefed reference setting up our new Pup Tent 15 banking account at China Bank. He stated a check would be written to open the account and after the check had cleared USAFEDCU, remaining funds would be transferred to China Bank and the old account closed.   Ski-1 reported on membership still is at 47 cooties @ 100% and there were no applications pending.  The H. G. was not present, but the S. S. made a motion which was seconded to have a Street Kids Swim Party on Clark Base at the Officer Club pool on 1 March @ 12:30.  The motion passed.   It was reported the Pup Tent will do what they can to work with VFW Post 2485, but it is a two way street.  The Hungry Cootie Report,  briefed and stated frankly we need to try and recruit new Cooties if we want our Pup Tent to remain active.   The S. S. then re-opened the floor for final nominations and elections for 2008-2009 Pup Tent 15 Shavetails.  The Cooties elected were Seam Squirrel – Joe Carsley; Blanket Bum – Dick Jones; Hide Gimlet; John Welsh; C. C. D. B. – Ski-1 Koslovski; Sky Pilot – Ski-2 Stryminski; Shyster – Buddy McGuire; Pill Pusher – Cecil Johnson; KCR – Jerry Prinz; Tightwad 2 Year – Bob McGovern and Tightwad 3 Year – Paul Morgenthal.  The election was closed and the S. S. announced the Shavetails-Elect will be installed at the March scratch.  The S. S. reported the approved purchased of peanut butter and jelly was taken care of for the Baguio Blind School at a cost of P5700 with an added donation of P5000.  A motion and second was made to purchase a full-page color ad in the VFW DPA 2008 Convention Book. @ $200.  The motion passed.  It was announced, official Pup Tent 15 photos will be taken at the March Scratch after the installation.

The 12 March 2008 Scratch was conducted actually the last time by Seam Squirrel Dick Jones.  He went back to the states, hoping to get his hand and hip fixed at the Mayo Hospital in Florida.  The CCDB reported on the status of opening our new Pup Tent 15 U. S. dollar account at the China Bank within the SM Mall.  He transferred funds into the new account but left some operating funds in the USAFEDCU mainly to pay for the DPA Convention Book Ad, June Grand Scratch expenses and hospitality room at the DPA Convention.   LM Cootie Earl Dodge passed away due to cancer on 30 March in the province.  His lady friend had his body returned to Angeles City and he was buried in the Clark Cemetery.  Cootie E. Ralph took care of his affairs with his family in the states.  Our Membership Chairman Ski-1 reported the Pup Tent is still at 47 Cooties for 100% from December 2007.  The HG John Welsh reported there was a fair Cootie turn out on 1 March for the Street Kids Swim Party on Clark Base with 25 kids enjoying themselves and having a good meal.  The BB reported the hospital visits and reporting is at a all time low   In Old Business it was reported by PGC Seadog, the name change request through Grand to Supreme has been approved, so we are now officially “Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15”.  The Shavetails for 2008-2009 were duly installed by PGC Prinz and a social was held after the scratch for our Cooties and any VFW members who wanted to come to it.  We also had the official 2008 Pup Tent 15 photo taken which will be in the DPA Convention Book. At Good of the Scratch; beside the installation, it was announced about the VFW DPA Convention and Grand Scratch 15-21 June 2008 in Pattaya, Thailand.  It looks like there may be 6 Cooties going but only three attending the Grand Scratch.  The SS announced our good supporter Brian Usher has to have a double hernia operation, but does not have the funds, the SS asked for any donation to please turn into him (SS).

The 8 April 2008 Scratch  was opened by Acting Seam Squirrel (ASS) BB Joe Carsley, as our SS Dick Jones left for the states for medical treatment on his hand and hip in Florida.  The ASS stumbled through the ritual the best he could until PGC Seadog noticed he was trying to read the ritual upside down, like a good Cootie.   Membership Chairman Ski-1 received an E-Mail from Grand QM Frank Hillyard stating Frank Roberts had re-joined Pup Tent 7, however how this would effect our Pup Tent membership total was not clear HC E. Ralph recommended that telephone calls, especially long distance ones, and even E-Mails and Yahoo Messenger memos to Cooties sick at home or other veterans should be somehow counted.  The BB said he would check on this recommendation.   At Old Business the CCDB reported the fee to change our official name to Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15 was sent in and was received by Supreme.  The new Charter was received the end of April but without any names on it.  This will be discussed at the May Scratch.  The ASS reported the 2008-2009 Warrant (Installation Report) has been completed, signed by the installing officer and distributed to Grand and Supreme.  However there were many appointed vacancies due to lack of Cooties to fill the positions such as Hungry Cootie and Provost Marshall. At New Business Cootie E. Ralph seconded a motion with a motion made, for the Pup Tent to donate $100 to the American Cancer  Society in the name of Cooties Earl Dodge, Larry Jackson and Steve Massie.  The second and motion passed.  Cootie Lary seconded a motion with a motion being made for the Pup Tent to purchase four A. L. 123 Memorial Day raffle books @ P1000.  The second and motion passed.

The 13 May Scratch was called to order by the Acting Seam Squirrel (ASS) Joe Carsley.     The ASS appointed PH Jack Rollins as AHC and PGC Jerry Prinz as APM.   Prior to the start of the Scratch, the ASS directed the APM to undrape the charter, which was draped in April for LM cootie Earl Dodge.  There were only 9 Cooties at the Scratch plus the Deputy Inspector Jim Correll.   The APM recognized distinguished Cooties or guests Grand JVC Mitchell, Grand Dep. Inspector Correll and then he recognized himself as a PGC.     Membership Chairman Ski-1 gave his report that our Pup Tent was not 100% as we had understood since the December Grand Scratch.   There were some misunderstandings reference Frank Roberts deciding to rejoin PT 7 and therefore paying them his annual dues.  After it was decided what had happened and was wrong, our membership was adjusted to 46 (1 short of 100%).        Under New Business, a motion was made and seconded for the Pup Tent to purchase a wreath for any Pup Tent 15 Cootie laid to rest at Clark Cemetery.  The motion passed.   Another motion with a second was made for the names of the Charter Cooties be added to the new Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15 Charter and have the new charter laminated.  The motion passed.  The Pup Tent was finally re-inspected and all was in order.  The reason for the re-inspection was Grand JVC Al Mitchell inspected our Pup Tent on November 10, however since he is a member of our Pup Tent it was determined not to be a valid inspection.

The June Scratch was again chaired by Acting Seam Squirrel (ASS) Joe Carsley.  S. S. Jones is still in Florida recovering from hip surgery and we do not expect him back till August – September.     There were 11 Cooties in attendance.   CCDB Lafayette Donaldson (L. Don) gave his last report as CCDB.  L. Don has done an excellent job in taking care of our duffel and he has now been promoted to Provost Marshall for 2008-2009. L. Don did state all accounts in the USAFEDCU have been closed to include the share account.   Ski-1, our Membership Chairman gave the final report for this Cootie year.  We thought we were 100% in December but with some adjusting of figures and misunderstanding due to annual Cootie Frank Roberts transferring back to PT 7, it turned out bad for us.  We received this data late whereas there was not any time to do anything so the membership ended to one short of 100% @ 46 Cooties.   HG Welsh made a motion, which a second was made for the Pup Tent to host a Street Kids Swim Party on 19 July 2008 at Clark Base at the Officer Club.   Bottom line, we did not obtain 100% in membership.    Perhaps 2008-2009 will be better, we hope so with all our local Cooties supporting us and good support from our Post.  Under Old Business, CCDB L. Don showed all the Cooties the new Mighty Pinatubo Pup Tent 15 charter with all the Charter Cooties on a laminated board.  He did an outstanding job on this end of year project.   He will work on getting it hung before the July scratch.  Under New Business delegates were voted and approved for the 17 June Grand Scratch.  They were Cooties Jerry Prinz, Al Mitchell and E. Ralph Milward.

15-19 JUN – The Department of Pacific Areas 42nd Annual Convention and Grand of Pacific 39th Grand Scratch was held in Pattaya, Thailand.  Attending were GSVC Al Mitchell, PGC Jerry Prinz, PSS Ralph Milward, Cooties Bob Zaher, Stu Dougherty, Tom Elliott and Ken Schaefer.  Ably hosted by Post 9876 and Pup Tent 6.  A good time was had by all attendees.
